Hocking County Help Me Grow Hosts Early Childhood Screening Day
The Family and Children First Council in partnership with Hocking County Help Me Grow held an Early Childhood Screening Day on Friday, Nov. 10. IPAC board member Victoria Hilliard, director of the Hocking County FCFC, and Jill Squires, the central coordinator of Hocking County Help Me Grow, developed the screening event.
The event offered an array of services to local families, including vision and hearing screenings provided by Head Start, flu shots and shot records, car seat checks, Safe Sleep techniques, infant CPR and Heimlich training, and developmental screenings were provided by Help Me Grow. General information on infant nutrition, breast-feeding, smoking cessation, and early childhood mental health were also provided.
Victoria and Jill hope to make the event annual to promote healthier families and children within the Hocking County community. Help Me Grow has also hosted Kidpalooza, a yearly outreach activity held in May that provides information for parents and fun for children. This coming May will mark the 19th anniversary for that event.
