CASA Seeking Volunteers

The CASA/GAL program of Athens County hosted The Voice of the Child Tour on January 27, 2017 at the Athens County Courthouse. The Court Appointed Special Advocates program exists with funding from state and federal monies. The event welcomed interested organizations and community members, in hopes more volunteers would join the CASA program.

Hosted by the 6 program staff, about 31 people attended the informational session. Due to a grant from the Attorney General’s office, Athens CASA Executive Director Jenny Stotts has taken on the role of Regional Director of Southeast Ohio CASA, supporting surrounding county CASA branches with technical assistance, materials, resources as well as other services. Stotts led an informational session about the usual commitment for CASA volunteers, what the application and training process entails, and the impact CASA has had on the lives of children served by its volunteers. With perspectives from a foster parent and a Children Services caseworker, attendees got to hear from multiple players involved with typical cases for children served by CASA volunteers.

In Athens County alone, there are over 60 children in need of a CASA volunteer, and currently only 25 volunteers serving another 60 families. For more information about the organization and how to become involved, go to or contact Jenny Stotts.
